One of the most important accessories in my wardrobe are my glasses. I actually have very good vision, but, I have photosensitivity and I get migraine headaches from bright lights. If I’m driving in bright sunlight and the sun reflects off of a car’s back window or off of some metal and creates a little bright spot, I have to switch lanes or avoid looking at it because for me that’s a recipe for disaster. Also, when I’m working at my restaurant job, there’s a certain window near the entrance that shines very bright sunlight into the dining room and reflects light from the cars parked there. Additionally, the kitchen has bright fluorescent lights that are uncomfortable and the dining room is usually quite dark. I constantly pass in and out from the brightness of the kitchen to the darkness of the dining room, which is lit by candlelight that also bothers my eyes. A handful of times over the years, I’ve gotten migraine headaches while working and have had to just stop, give away all my tables, and go to my car to sit in silence and darkness.

I found a solution that helps ease my eyes during work, glasses with an FL-41 migraine tint. These glasses don’t totally prevent my migraines, but they do help relax my eyes and I’ve noticed a reduction in the amount of intense episodes since I’ve been wearing them. I have multiple pairs of these glasses in different styles and shades of darkness. The most recent pair that I purchased are large ones that fit over regular glasses and have protection above the eyes for blocking light and have tinted lenses on the sides as well to block the light in your peripheral. One night at work, I was wearing them on the patio and a trendy looking dude asked me, “Are those Balenciaga’s?” I get a lot of compliments on all my FL-41 glasses. It’s a rose tint and everyone seems to think they’re very cool. I’ve also heard a lot of comments about how I “see the world through rose-colored glasses” which I thought was a quote attributed to the words of Wlliam Shakespeare, but now upon further research, google tells me that’s not true. He never mentioned “rose-colored glasses” in his works. and the phrase is thought to be from the 1840’s.
