Are You Wearing Alpaca Wool?
Recently, I’ve been experiencing the advantages of wool clothes.
Let me tell you how I have incorporated this delightfully soft and warm material into my sartorial journey.
I work as a server/ waiter and normally when I would take off my shoes after a shift, my feet would be soaking wet with perspiration and sometimes would smell a little foul. I was wearing copper fit, compression socks, which I now see are made from nylon, spandex, and polyester. I do my best to avoid synthetic materials as much as possible, however, in the case of socks, it seems a small percentage is usually present.
I decided to start experimenting with more natural materials, which led me to wearing wool. I learned that it has moisture wicking and odor resistance properties. I started searching for wool socks. I found a pair on Amazon that were 95% cashmere, so I bought a pair of black ones for work and a pair of purple ones for regular life. Purple is my favorite color and anytime I find purple clothing, I’m tempted to purchase it. Unfortunately, I encountered a few problems with these socks; they are slippery to walk in, they are delicate to wash and the material piles immediately, and they are a bit itchy.
I went back to Amazon and did more searching and found a pair of 40% merino wool socks that have been my go-to work socks ever since. These socks are thick, but not too thick. They are not itchy and they do great in the washer and dryer, and they have kept my feet drier than any other socks that I’ve ever worn. Next, I happened to donate some of my old clothes to a nearby thrift store in the San Fernando valley area of Los Angeles called Valley Value Center. I had some spare time and decided to peruse for a bit. I ended up buying a very nice beige. alpaca wool scarf, made in Peru for $4, a framed tiger painting for $10, and a wooden jewelry box for $6. I also saw in the clothing aisle, three pairs of new condition ZARA men’s slacks that I would have bought if they had fit me, but unfortunately they were too big. I recommend if you are in the valley area checking this place out for both donations and purchases. They only accept cash.
I told a bunch of people about the great deals that I got at this thrift store. Also, I always thought wool was very itchy so, I was surprised by the softness and warmth provided by my new scarf. Then, all of a sudden an infomercial on alpaca wool popped up on my youtube, which explained to me that the only fiber known to be warmer than alpaca wool is polar bear fur and that alpaca wool is also hypoallergenic and soft. So I decided to do some more research and find a value option for an alpaca wool zip down hoodie or v-neck sweater. I prefer to only wear zip down hoodies and v-necks because it bothers me having my neck constricted, which I experience when wearing crew neck shirts and pullover hoodies.
Let me introduce you to my online, alpaca wool clothing store discovery...Gamboa Fashion Brand.
I purchased this knit button down sweater, gray scarf, and black and white hat, which I have found incredibly useful during these colder days and nights. Furthermore, I’ve also received a lot of compliments, especially on the hat which gets a lot of attention. The pom-pom tassels makes people smile.
Classic Alpaca Scarf: Currently $34.99 plus tax and shipping.
Andean Alpaca Hat: Currently $24.99 plus tax and shipping on my Amazon link above, which is actually $8 cheaper than the Gamboa website charging $32.99.
Ski Fair Isle Alpaca Sweater for Men: Unfortunately, I don’t get affiliate money from this one because it’s not on Amazon. However, it is on sale right now at the Gamboa website for 70% off the original price from $99 to currently, $29.99 plus taxes and shipping.
